2nd Nine Weeks Skills


Communications:
Reading
  • Names letters- capital and lowercase
  • Makes sounds for letters- capital and lowercase
  • Recognizes and produces rhyming words
  • Identifies beginning sounds in words
  • Reads sight words without hesitation (I, see, a, the, can, you, we, my, like, to, play, and, is, in, on)
  • Blends and segments single syllable spoken words
  • Reads short “a” CVC words
  • Looks at book quietly/reads independently for 10 minutes
  • Discusses books with others (illustrations, opinions, predictions, characters, setting, cause and effect)
  • Draws and writes the beginning, middle and end of a story
Writing:
Functional Writing
  • Generates own functional writing topic
  • Draws/writes/dictates “how to” steps in sequential order
  • Draws detailed picture to represent each step
  • Uses inventive spelling which shows letter/sound correspondence
Report Writing
  • Generates own report writing topic
  • Writes a report which is focused on the topic
  • Draws/writes/dictates at least two facts about the topic
Includes detailed picture that supports writing
Speaking and Listening:
  • Speaks audibly and expresses thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly
  • Follows agreed upon rules in a continued conversation through multiple exchanges (listens to others, takes turns speaking)
  • Asks and answers questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood
Math:
  • Names numbers 0-15
  • Places numbers in order 0-15
  • Matches numerals with groups of objects 0-15
  • Counts orally 1-50
  • Names 2D shapes- triangle, rectangle, square, circle, rhombus, hexagon
  • Demonstrates an understanding of more, fewer and same
  • Compares two groups of up to 10 objects to determine greater than, less than or equal to
  • Compares two numerals between 1 and 10 as written numerals
  • Classifies objects into given categories, counts the number of objects in each category, and sorts the categories by count
  • Describes and directly compares two objects with measurable attributes (height, weight, length)
